Junior and Senior Kindergarten Program

Who is this program for?

Junior Academy’s Kindergarten program provides a welcoming, inclusive, and fun environment for children beginning their school journey.

Our Kindergarten program is designed for children who may benefit from smaller class sizes, additional structure, and specialized teaching strategies.

Our goal is to help every child develop a strong sense of belonging, confidence, independence, and connection while building the foundational skills needed for future learning.

What academic support is available?

Our Kindergarten program builds the foundational academic skills children need for future success while recognizing that children develop at different rates.

Academic support includes:

  • Early reading and literacy
  • Phonological and language development
  • Writing and early written expression
  • Early mathematics and numeracy
  • Problem-solving
  • Fine-motor and classroom readiness skills
  • Executive functioning
  • Following routines and directions
  • Developing independence with learning tasks
  • Communication skills

What curriculum does Kindergarten follow?

Junior Academy’s Kindergarten program reflects the key areas of the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum (2026), including:

  • Belonging and Contributing
  • Self-Regulation and Well-Being
  • Foundations of Language and Mathematics
  • Problem Solving and Innovating

Learning is designed to be developmentally appropriate, engaging, and responsive to individual student needs. Through play, inquiry, exploration, and guided instruction, students develop both academic foundations and the social-emotional skills necessary for a successful school experience. We celebrate each child’s growth and recognize that developing confidence, communication, independence, friendships, and emotional well-being are important parts of Kindergarten success.
