STEPS Program | Individualized Skills-Based Learning

Who is this program for?

The STEPS Program is designed for students who require a highly individualized approach to learning, development, and skill building. Every student has their own path toward success, and STEPS provides the structure, specialized teaching, and personalized support needed to help students build skills and experience meaningful success.

Junior Academy offers two specialized STEPS classes — STEPS Jr. and STEPS Sr. — providing developmentally appropriate programming based on each student’s individual strengths, needs, and goals.

What academic support is available?

Academic programming may include:

  • Pre-academic skill development

  • Writing and communication
  • Mathematics and functional math
  • Academic readiness skills

Teachers scaffold learning and break skills into manageable steps, allowing students to experience success while continuing to develop their academic abilities.

What therapeutic services are available?

STEPS takes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to student development.

ABA therapy is embedded into the STEPS program, allowing students to receive individualized ABA-based support as part of their regular school day. ABA strategies are integrated into academic, social, communication, behavioural, and functional learning activities.

Our specialized educational team also works collaboratively with additional therapists to support individual student goals. Depending on a student’s needs, this may include occupational therapy and speech and language support.

By bringing educational and therapeutic supports together, STEPS provides a coordinated approach to helping students develop skills that can be used throughout their school day and in everyday life.

A Highly Individualized Approach

The STEPS program provides an exceptionally supportive learning environment where specialized educators can provide a high level of individualized attention.

With STEPS Jr. and STEPS Sr., embedded ABA therapy, specialized educational staff, therapeutic collaboration, functional academics, life skills, social development, and individualized learning goals, STEPS provides a highly structured and supportive approach to special education.
