Outdoor Education is a year-round program held across the street from the Junior Academy at the Canadian Film Institute and Windfields Park. Students explore the parklands to study science-related topics and engage in physical education. The river, fields, and forest offer a rich, green environment for hands-on learning and fresh air.
The importance of outdoor education cannot be overstated. It provides students with practical, real-world experiences that enhance their understanding of the curriculum through inquiry-based learning. This approach encourages students to ask questions, investigate, and discover answers on their own, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By learning in a natural setting, students develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the environment. Additionally, outdoor education promotes physical fitness and well-being, as students engage in physical activities while breathing fresh air. These experiences also foster teamwork and collaboration, essential for personal and academic growth. Overall, our outdoor education program enriches the learning process, making it more dynamic, engaging, and impactful while promoting a healthier and happier lifestyle.
In our school, we leverage technology to enhance learning and equip students with essential 21st-century skills. Integrating digital tools and platforms into the curriculum enables interactive and personalized learning experiences, making complex subjects more accessible and engaging. Students learn to navigate and utilize various technologies, fostering critical skills such as digital literacy, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Moreover, we employ assistive technologies that support students’ written output, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all learners. These tools help students with diverse needs to express themselves effectively, whether through speech-to-text software, word prediction tools, or customizable text formats. By integrating such assistive technologies, we empower every student to participate fully in their education, fostering independence and confidence in their academic journey.
