Dear JA Families,

We hope that you had a very enjoyable March Break and we are looking forward to the final term of the 2016 – 2017 school year. With the conclusion of the break comes the spring season. Please continue to send your child(ren) to school with warm, labelled clothing as mornings can still be quite chilly.  We are looking forward to the warm, spring weather that will be with us soon but with that often comes wet and muddy conditions. Please be sure to send weather appropriate attire for recess and all Outdoor Education classes.

Science Fair

Thank you to all of the parents who came to Junior Academy to support the grades 5 – 8 students at our school Science Fair. Your questions and positive feedback during the science fair were wonderful! If you have any comments to help us plan for future Science Fairs, we would welcome your remarks.

Professional Development

On Monday, the staff participated in a variety of Professional Development meetings, including learning about additional resources for our LEAP and FLEX programs.

Over the March Break, Ms. Wood participated in a number of professional development modules including a focus on assessment, parent engagement, differentiating for gifted students, multimedia STEM resources to ignite student interest and next generation science standards.

Additionally, Miss Dunn has completed a six session course on Positive Discipline, a program designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities. Positive Discipline focuses on teaching important social and life skills in a manner that are deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults.

Hot Lunch Program and RFRK Lunch Club

It’s not too late to sign up for our new lunch program, the Real Food Lunch Club, which will begin next week.

Beginning on April 3, the Real Food Lunch Club at Junior Academy will provide delicious hot lunches. This opt-in lunch program is available to all grades (and teachers too) for Monday through Thursday of each week, for the remainder of this school year.

The litterless, family-style service also matches our eco efforts at school. Kids bring in a reusable, resealable lunch container and cutlery each day for lunch, then bring it back home for washing. The price is $5.20 daily for a healthy meat or veggie protein, side veg, healthy grain, and piece of fruit. Parents must order for all 4 service days per week.  Parents with more than one child in the program receive a 5% discount.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Real Food for Real Kids directly at416-410-5437 extension 2
