Dear JA Families,

A reminder to everyone that this coming weekend is our Fall Mid-Term Break. The school will be closed on Friday and Monday. I wish everybody a wonderful and restful long weekend.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Our school’s Remembrance Day assembly will be held tomorrow, November 9th, beginning at 8:50 a.m. in the gym.  Mr. Sidler and Ms. Leach will lead the Remembrance Day assembly, along with students from various classes. We will also be having a guest speaker, 2nd Lieutenant Philip Ngo will be joining us. Parents are welcome to attend and all students are required to be in Full Dress for the assembly.

Parent – Teacher Conferences

The first term report card will be sent home on Friday, December 1st.

We will be conducting Parent-Teacher conferences on Monday, December 4th from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 5th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Please note, there will be an early dismissal on December 4th. Kindergarten, grades one and two will be dismissed at 1:30, grade 3 and four at 1:40 and grades five through eight at 1:50.

Interview sign-ups will be available on Edsby beginning, November 20th at 9:00 am.

  • On November 20th, you will receive a new message in the message folder (file folder icon on the top left of the screen) which will read, “Fall 2017 PT Conference”.
  • Click on the message and then click on the button, “Book a Parent-Teacher Interview”
  • This will take you to a spreadsheet of available times with your child’s teachers. Click on a “Free” time to book.

If you require technical support when signing up for an interview, please contact the office.

Interviews are scheduled in 20-minute blocks and teachers will be required to keep to their scheduled timeline so that the afternoon runs smoothly.  If you wish for your child to remain in the After-Care Program and he/she does not usually attend, please contact the office so arrangements can be made.

Parents’ Association Meeting

On our Fall Events schedule, a Parents’ Association meeting was listed for tomorrow, November 9th at 8:40. Given that we have our Remembrance Day Assembly is schedule at the same time, we are cancelling this meeting. The November meeting will be focused on a follow-up to our Round Tables and I have moved the meeting to an evening timeslot. (see section below)

Round Table Follow-Up

As a follow-up to our round-table meetings in the month of October, I will be circulating a brief Survey Monkey next week, focused on a few key topics. The following week, on November 23rd at 6:30 p.m., we will be offering an evening meeting for parents who wish to attend, where I will share the results of the round table. Kristine Locklin will also be presenting on Public v.s. private therapy sessions for Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. If you are planning to attend this session, I ask that you RSVP to Nick Johnson, in order to give us a better sense of attendance.

Outdoor Clothing and labels

A reminder that as the cold weather arrives, it is now time to begin sending cold weather items such as hats, gloves, scarves and boots to school with your child. Please ensure that your child has the items necessary to remain warm in the colder weather and that all articles of clothing are properly labelled.

Annual Fund

Contributions continue to come in but there’s still lots of room left in our annual fund campaign! We are hopefully that all families will be supporting this year’s campaign.

If you haven’t made your contribution yet, we hope that all families will make a contribution suitable to their individual circumstance.

Thank you to everybody for their generosity!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held from November 15-17 in our library. Thank you to all of the families who have volunteered to help with set-up and as cashier!!

This is a very popular event that not only promotes reading at home, but also provides new books to our classrooms and library. We look forward to seeing you at the book fair!
