Dear JA Families,
The first day of skiing at Heights of Horseshoe was a great success! Even with the unpleasant weather, students enjoyed their day tremendously. Please remember that the bus leaves promptly at 7:45 a.m. and that all students are expected to be at the school by 7:30 a.m.
As we begin looking ahead to make plans for next year, we are distributing reenrollment packages to current students, today. I would ask that you return the signed forms no later than February 9th. If there are any programming questions matters you would like to discuss prior to re-registration, please contact me to set up a time for either a phone call or meeting.
After last week’s ski day, Heights of Horseshoe let us know that they inadvertently double-booked their facilities with a corporate event and they are unable to host the school on January 26th. They have re-booked our final ski date to Friday, February 9th. As such, January 26th will remain a regular school day for all students We will continue to send reminders as the date approaches.
Please be sure to send the following items to ensure a warm and safe ski day!
Ø Neck warmer / Balaclava
Ø Warm mitts
Ø Warm socks
Ø Wear Layers
Ø Pack belongings in a backpack so students can carry their skis to the bus!
Grade 5-8 Pub Night:
A reminder that Thursday, January 25th, 2018 is pub night for all parents of a student in grades 5-8. Tali Golombek has organized this event as an opportunity for parents to get together and socialize. Pub night will occur at The Bier Markt at shops of Don Mills, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there.
Parent Information and Discussion Night: Strength Based Education
Join us for an evening of conversation and California wines to find out about strength-based learning and talent development.
Shima Kassirian and Leanne Muir will share their California experience, what they learned about and how it has impacted them as parents.
We encourage all parents to attend and learn about this innovative approach to education by a group of talented educators.
This evening will take place on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00 in the JA library.
This will be the first topic in a series of monthly parent discussions about the topics that matter to you and your family.
Please RSVP to Paul Bamberger, email@example.com
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
Last Thursday was the first Hot Chocolate Fundraiser day and it was very popular. The next Hot Chocolate date will be next Thursday, January 25, followed by February 1st. Hot chocolate will be sold in the atrium at first recess with proceeds going towards the grade eight graduation gift to the school. Hot chocolate will be sold for $2.00 per cup or $2.25 with marshmallows.
A reminder that, if you signed up for a pay club after school, it will begin this week. Unfortunately, there was not enough interest to run Mad Science for the Grades 2-6 group this term or Keyboarding for the grade 5-8.
Valentines Bake Sale – February 14th
As is tradition at Junior Academy, there will be a Bake Sale on February 14th. We are looking for parents to help sell baked goods on the day of the event and we will be asking for donations of baked goods to sell. Each class also decorates a cake which is raffled off on the day of the bake sale. If you are able to help with this event, or if you can send in some baked goods or a plain, baked cake for classes to decorate, please email Ms. Stark to let her know. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Chinese New Year
We would like to celebrate Chinese New Year at Junior Academy on Thursday, February 15th. If this is something you are able to assist with organizing (decorating, providing food, or if you have other ideas), please contact Nick Johnson, email@example.com . We will proceed with this celebration pending sufficient volunteers.
Would you like to receive 10% off next year’s tuition?
From now until June, 2018, we will offer 10% off your child’s tuition (one per family) when a new student enrolls at Junior Academy as a direct result of your personal referral. If you refer a second family who also enroll, an additional 5% will be deducted.
