Dear JA Families,
The first day of skiing at Heights of Horseshoe was a great success! Even with the cold and windy weather, students enjoyed their day tremendously. Please remember that the bus leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m. and that all students are expected to be at the school by 7:45 a.m. There are two different lunch specials are offered for $6.00. One includes a hotdog and French fries with a drink and the second includes chicken fingers and French fries with a drink. We look forward another fun-filled ski day this Friday, January 20th.
For students in grades 1 to 8 not skiing, please ensure they come to school with outdoor clothing suitable for an extended Outdoor Education class.
We value your input and feedback! Below, you will notice a link to a ‘Survey Monkey’ which we are asking all Junior Academy families to complete. The survey is completely anonymous, it consists of 10 questions and should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes of your time. Of particular interest to us are questions pertaining to the colour of the JA crested polo shirt (as we are considering a switch from white to navy) and also the lunch program. We would greatly appreciate your response prior to January 26th.
It is the time of year when we look ahead and begin to make plans and organize staffing for next year. In order to forecast our needs as accurately as possible, it is necessary to know how many students to plan for. With this in mind we are now preparing re-enrollment packages for distribution to current students, next week. I would ask that you return the signed forms no later than February 10th. If there are any matters you would like to discuss prior to re-registration, please contact me to set up a time for either a phone call or meeting.
We are excited to welcome a number of new families to the JA community.
Please find an updated copy of our school directory, attached.
Movie Night: Thursday, February 2; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet evening or a dinner out without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on February 2nd. After our first Movie Night was snowed out, we’re trying for round two! Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for The Secret Lives of Pets . A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. Please note, if you registered for Movie Night in December, you are registered for Movie Night on February 2nd. If you still wish to reserve a space, please contact Paul Bamberger (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser – from student Liam M.
Do you remember the hot chocolate fundraiser in 2016 for the 3D printer? We raised $714, which was more than our goal and more than half of the cost of the 3D printer. The new printer was delivered on the last day of classes before the break. We are busy working out the details and come February, we will be doing tutorials for both teachers and students on how to use this great new device. Thanks to everyone for their support on this project!
Social Skills Weekly Lunch Time Program
The response to the Social Skills program offered by Kristine Locklin has been significant. Kristine will be in touch once we figure out how to accommodate as many students as possible during the winter term. Given the demand we will also offer the program in the spring.
Bake Sale – February 14th
As is tradition at Junior Academy, there will be a Bake Sale on February 14th. We are still looking for a parent to co-ordinate this event as well as baked goods to sell. Each class also decorates a cake which is raffled off on the day of the bake sale. If you are able to coordinate this event with Julie Stewart, or if you can send in some baked goods, please email Julie to let her know. (email@example.com) We are also looking for a volunteer(s) to bake the cakes for each class to decorate for the raffle.
Reminder about Labelling Items
Our lost and found contains a growing assortment of items. Please label all uniform pieces as well as seasonal outerwear so we can return missing items to their owner. Similarly, we recommend that all devices brought in for use contain a label. Thank you for your help in this regard.
Chinese New Year
We would like to celebrate Chinese New Year at Junior Academy on Monday, January 30th. If this is something you are able to assist with organizing (decorating, providing food, or if you have other ideas), please contact Julie Stewart (firstname.lastname@example.org). We will proceed with this celebration pending sufficient volunteers.
Would you like to receive 10% off next year’s tuition?
