Wednesday November 1, 2017

Dear JA Families,

Thank you to all of the parents who joined us in the gymnasium yesterday morning for our Halloween parade of costumes and storybook. It was wonderful to see the various costumes and to have so many families attend our event.

Open Houses

Today is our first Open House in our series of November Open Houses. If you know a family who may be interested in JA, please encourage them to attend one of our Open Houses from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., every Wednesday in November.

Fire Drills

Last Thursday, we completed the third of our three mandated fall fire drills. I am happy to report that the entire school evacuated the building in one minute, thirty-six seconds!

Our next fire drill practice will occur in the spring of 2018.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Our school’s Remembrance Day assembly will be held next Thursday, November 9th, beginning at 8:45 a.m. in the gym.  Mr. Sidler and Ms. Leach will lead the Remembrance Day assembly, along with students from various classes. Parents are welcome to attend and all students are required to be in Full Dress for the assembly.

Mid-Term Break

It’s hard to believe that our mid-term break is only one week away. Please note that the school will be closed on Friday, November 10th and Monday, November 13 for our mid-term break. I hope that everyone enjoys some well-deserved time off.

Outdoor Clothing and labels

As the weather has begun to turn colder, it is now time to begin sending old weather items such as hats, gloves, scarves and boots to school with your child. Please ensure that your child has the items necessary to remain warm in the colder weather and that all articles of clothing are properly labelled.

Annual Fund

This week, we held a silent auction amongst the JA staff to support the annual fund. I am extremely pleased to announce that the staff raised over $1 500 towards the fund.

Contributions continue to come in and we are hopefully that all families will be supporting this year’s campaign.

If you haven’t made your contribution yet, we hope that all families will make a contribution suitable to their individual circumstance.

Thank you to everybody for their generosity!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be November 15-17 in our library. We are still looking for parent volunteers to help us with this event. There are 2 ways to help out!

Set Up Volunteers – This would take place on November 9th, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Cashiers – We need several parents to act as cashiers for the students purchasing books. There are 2 shifts each day; 8-8:40am and 3 – 4:30. You do not need to sign up for an entire shift, we can split shifts between volunteers 🙂

This is a very popular event that not only promotes reading at home, but also provides new books to our classrooms and library.

Please contact Cathy Hibbert, if you are able to volunteer.
