Dear JA Families,
I would like to remind everyone that this is Heather Rees’ final week at Junior Academy, as she begins the next stage of her career, beginning a brand new Secondary School in Richmond Hill. Over the past two years, Mrs. Rees has been instrumental in the development of several new initiatives at Junior Academy. Her influence will continue to benefit the Junior Academy community as these programmes continue to grow and thrive. Feel free to drop in or send Heather a message to wish her well and say goodbye.
Save the Date – Guest Speaker Jennifer Kolari
We are excited to have author Jennifer Kolari, of ‘Connected Parenting’ speak at the school. Jennifer is a well-known child and family therapist, and she will join us at Junior Academy on Monday, May 15 from 7:00 – 8:30 for a speaking engagement on Connected Parenting. Tickets are $25 each and we encourage you to invite friends and family members. If you are interested in attending this event, please RSVP to Nick Johnson at njohnson@junioracademy.com. Family and friends are welcome!
Spring Concert
This year’s Spring Concert will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 and the theme will be A Celebration of Sound and Colour. We will begin the evening with a reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., concluding around 8:15 p.m.
We are looking for assistance with set-up, decorating and/or picking-up supplies. If you are able to assist, please let the office know. Tickets for the concert will cost $10.00 and will be available beginning Monday May 1st.
Grandparent / Special Friend Day
Save the date: May 18th is Grandparents and Special Friends day at Junior academy. All students will be invited to ask a Grandparent or a Special Friend (adult) to come to school. More details are still to come.
Kiss and Ride Program / No Left Turns out of the Parking Lot
You will notice that we are placing pylons in the parking lot in order further direct traffic flow. As always, the safety of our students remains our primary concern. If you need to come into the school, please be sure to park in a parking spot or on a side street. In order to expedite drop-off and pick-up, please remain in your vehicle and allow our staff to help your child in or out of the vehicle.
A reminder to all that there are no left turns out of our parking lot. This is particularly important between 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 – 4 00 p.m. as this creates long line-ups of vehicles.
Fire Drills
As Spring is upon us, it is once again time to complete our Spring Fire Drills. Our first fire drill is scheduled for tomorrow, April 27th. Our goal is to evacuate the building in under two minutes. We’ll update you on how we do!
School Photos – Re-Takes
Kelly Moss Photography will be returning to Junior Academy this Friday, April 28th, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to take photos of new staff and students.
Parent Association Meeting
Our next Parent Association Meeting is scheduled for next week, Wednesday, May 3rd at 8:30 a.m. We will be discussing the upcoming Fun Fair in June, including areas where we will need assistance. Please consider joining us!
Lost and Found
We have placed lost and found items on a table in the atrium. Please take a couple of moments to check through the items displayed to see if any of these are yours. It is also a great idea to label all uniform pieces so that they can be returned promptly
Old Magazines for Art
We are looking for donations of old magazines for our art room. If you are able to provide any magazines, that would be most appreciated.
