Right to Play Field Trip – Written by Jai Mehta

On April 27, a group of seven students led by Mrs. Hibbert attended the Play Your Part Workshop. This is a program was developed by Right To Play with the goal of teaching Junior Leaders worldwide strategies to share with our peers, emphasizing on quality education, healthy practices, gender equality, child protection and building peaceful communities. The workshop used play-based activities to demonstrate valuable lessons. For example, a great game to demonstrate gender equality consisted of tag with a twist. For game one, all boys had to hop on one foot and were eliminated first. For the second game, boys had to crawl instead of run to avoid being caught. We learned that inequality can make simple things more difficult. We will now take these ideas and share them with the school.

As a follow-up, Junior Academy will be hosting the Play Your Part Challenge in June on Sports Day. We will incorporate some of the games we learned with our classmates and share important messages in a really fun way.

National Denim Day

Tuesday May 16th in National Denim Day.  Students and staff are encouraged to support the Cure Foundation by bringing in a minimum donation of $5.00 to dress down in denim.

Fire Drills

We completed our first Spring Fire Drill last week and everyone evacuated the school quickly and calmly in two minutes and four seconds. In our next two fire drills, we hope to reduce our evacuation time to under two minutes.
