Dear JA Families,

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break this past weekend. Looking forward to the Spring, we have many exciting events coming up.

Save the Date – Guest Speaker Jennifer Kolari

We are excited to have author and child and family therapist, Jennifer Kolari join us at Junior Academy on Monday, May 15 from 7:00 – 8:30 for a  speaking engagement. Ms. Kolari is the author of Connected Parenting and You’re Ruining My Life (But Not Really). In addition to her writing, she coaches parents, teaches social skills and runs workshops. Tickets are $25 each and if you are interested in attending this event, please RSVP to Mr. Bamberger at  Family and Friends are welcome!

Blue Jays Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow, students in grades five through eight will have an opportunity to attend the Toronto Blue Jays game. They will leave the school at 10:30 a.m. and return around 4:15 p.m. The students are encouraged to wear blue and white / Blue Jays attire.

Parent Association Meeting

Our next Parent Association Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3rd at 8:30 a.m. Please consider joining us!

Constituent Survey

Approximately two weeks ago, all staff and parents were sent a brief Constituent survey on Survey Monkey to seek your feedback during our search for the next Principal. We ask that you please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Please note, the survey will close on Friday, April 21st.

Annual Fund Purchase Update

We are continuing to make program and infrastructure improvements from the funds generously donated during the Annual Fund Campaign in the fall. Last week, a new Interactive Flat Panel SmartBoard was installed in the French room! We will continue to update you on additional investments this spring.

2017-2018 Calendar of Dates

In order to help with you long-term planning, we have attached the 2017 – 2018 school calendar. As we have done in the past, we will distribute a Special Events calendar prior to the beginning of each term.

Spring Concert

This year’s Spring Concert will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 and the theme will be A Celebration of Sound and Colour. We will begin the evening with a reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., concluding around 8:15 p.m. If you able to help up us with set-up, decorating or picking-up supplies, please let the office know. Tickets will cost $10.00 and will be available during the first two weeks of May, leading up to the concert.

School Photos

If you ordered school photos, print orders will be sent home with students this Friday, April 21st and all students will receive a class picture. Kelly Moss Photography will be returning to Junior Academy on Friday, April 28th from 10:00 – 12:00 to take photos of new staff and students. Feel free to Kelly directly if you have any questions or concerns. Kelly can be reached by email:

Professional Development Update

Ms. Stewart has recently completed a professional development course through York University, focused on inquiry based learning. Ms. Stewart is looking forward to employing many new ideas in the classroom LEAP program.

Junior Academy Cutlery Sets

Junior Academy cutlery sets, the perfect complement to The Lunch Club, are now available for purchase. Cutlery sets are $3.00 each and contain a knife, fork and spoon. (please see the attached photo) If you are interested in purchasing a cutlery set, please see Mr. Johnson or Mr. Bamberger in the office.

Show Your Support For Our Toronto Sports Teams

One of the Maple Leafs biggest fans and JA student, Aidan Nassar, has requested that we have a “Jersey Day” at Junior Academy during the Maple Leafs and Raptors playoff run. Because this Friday is Free Dress, we are encouraging our students to wear their favourite Leafs or Raptors jersey to show their support for their favourite team. Please note, no face paint or temporary tattoos are to be worn to school this Friday.
