Dear JA Families,
A big congratulations to our Boys’ Basketball team who played their first away game this Monday. The final score of the game was 38-24 against us but we are extraordinarily proud the team. The boys played extremely well and showed great team spirit. Way to go boys!
Packages were sent home last week. If you have not received yours, please check your child’s bag. In order to forecast our needs as accurately as possible, it is necessary to know how many students to plan for. As the school’s population has grown in the past year, please note that registration in our specialty programs will be limited and on a first come, first serve basis. Please do not delay and return the signed forms no later than February 9th. If there are any matters you would like to discuss regarding re-registration, please contact me.
A reminder that our final ski trip date was moved from January 26th to, February 9th, due to a booking conflict at Heights of Horseshoe. As such, January 26th will remain a regular school day for all students. We will provide an additional reminder prior to the next ski trip, as the date approaches.
Grade 5-8 Pub Night:
A reminder that our Grades 5-8 Parent Pub Night is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, January 25th, 2018. Tali Golombek, a grade 6 parent, has organized this event as an opportunity for parents to get together and socialize. Pub night will occur at The Bier Markt at shops of Don Mills, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there.
Parent Information and Discussion Night: Strength Based Education
Thank you to those who have already RSVP’s about our Strength Based Education Evening. If you haven’t committed to joining use yet, it’s not to late! Join us for an evening of conversation and California wines to find out about strength-based learning and talent development.
JA Parents, Shima Kassirian and Leanne Muir will share their California experience, what they learned about and how it has impacted them as parents.
We encourage all parents to attend and learn about this innovative approach to education by a group of talented educators.
This evening will take place on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00 in the JA library. Guests are welcome!
This will be the first topic in a series of monthly parent discussions about the topics that matter to you and your family.
Please RSVP to Paul Bamberger, email@example.com
LEGO club has been having a lot of fun on Monday’s at lunch! We would like to ask if you have LEGO at home that is no longer being used or you just have too much, that you consider donating it to our club. In particular, we are really hoping to collect LEGO mini-figures as these are the pieces we are low on. Thank you in advance!
JA Glee Club
Announcing a new addition to our club schedule! Mr. Douglas will now be running a Glee Club on Wednesdays at lunch recess for grades 5-8. We encourage all interested students to attend.
Kiss and Ride
Generally, our Kiss and Ride program has operated quite smoothly. From time to time cars do get backed-up and your patience is appreciated as we try to manage pick–up and drop-off as efficiently as possible. Below, are a few reminders in order to ensure the safety of all of our students
Have your child prepared for a quick exit (backpack ready inside the care and not in the truck as the vehicle approaches its stop). On a typical drop off, parents should not need to exit the vehicle; however, if you do you are required to park your car in a designated parking spot.
Placing your vehicle in park while your child exits or enters (a staff member will be available to open and close the vehicle door should assistance be needed)
Saying goodbye to your child and exiting the drop-off area quickly, stopping only long enough for your child to exit your vehicle
During both drop-off and pick-up, it is important that cars wait in a single file line and not reverse or drive around a car in front that has yet to move unless being signalled to do so by a teacher on duty.
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
We have two more Hot Chocolate opportunities for our students. The next Hot Chocolate Fundraiser sale will be tomorrow, Thursday, January 25, followed by February 1st. Hot chocolate will be sold in the atrium at first recess with proceeds going towards the grade eight graduation gift to the school. Hot chocolate will be sold for $2.00 per cup or $2.25 with marshmallows.
Valentines Bake Sale – February 14th
As is tradition at Junior Academy, there will be a Bake Sale on February 14th. We are looking for parents to help sell baked goods on the day of the event and we will be asking for donations of baked goods to sell. Each class also decorates a cake which is raffled off on the day of the bake sale. If you are able to help with this event, or if you can send in some baked goods or a plain, baked cake for classes to decorate, please email Ms. Stark to let her know. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Chinese New Year
We would like to celebrate Chinese New Year at Junior Academy on Thursday, February 15th. If this is something you are able to assist with organizing (decorating, providing food, or if you have other ideas), please contact Nick Johnson, email@example.com . We will proceed with this celebration pending sufficient volunteers.
Pyjama Day – February 8th
The Grade 8 class is pleased to be organizing the 6th annual Pyjama Day on February 8, 2018! The cost of participating in this event is $5.00, and proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of the Grade 8 graduation gift for the school. Full details are forthcoming!

From now until June, 2018, we will offer 10% off your child’s tuition (one per family) when a new student enrolls at Junior Academy as a direct result of your personal referral. If you refer a second family who also enroll, an additional 5% will be deducted.
