Dear JA Families,
This morning, we had our first Parents’ Association meeting of the 2017-18 school year. We had a fantastic turnout and I want to extend a thank you to those parents who joined us at the meeting. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Parents’ Association and helping with of school activities, please contact the main office.
Winter Parents’ Association Event
One topic of conversation that was brought up at this morning’s meeting was the formation of a committee to investigate, plan and potentially organize a Winter fundraising event for the Parents’ Association. Some ideas that were discussed include a Gala style event, a Fair, a Bizarre or an event night for the parent community. We already have a couple of parents who have offered to join a planning committee! If you are interested in joining this committee or, if you have a great idea / access to a venue, food service provider or entertainer, all ideas and assistance would be greatly appreciated Please feel free to contact Paul Bamberger at firstname.lastname@example.org
Terry Fox Walk/Run – Friday September 29
Our annual Terry Fox Run will be held next Friday, September 29th. Students and teachers are especially excited because it’s also our first House Team Event of the year and all students are encouraged to come dressed in their house colours to show their team spirit! All students will have received a new house t-shirt by the end of this week which can be worn on the 29th. House points can be earned for every article of clothing and accessories that students wear, displaying their house colour. Students will have brought home their fundraising pledge forms in their Agendas and donations can be made online on behalf of our school. If you donate online, please let your child’s home room teacher know how much was donated so your child can get credit for their house team.
Beginning last September, anyone who wishes to volunteer in any capacity at the school, must, like all teachers and staff members, complete a Police Reference Check (which will include a vulnerable sector screening) and be cleared before participating in activities with our students. Examples include field trips, coaching sports, driving students and volunteering within the school (classrooms/library). This requirement is for the safety and security of our students and will be strictly enforced. Please note, there is an additional school form for volunteer drivers
Forms were made available at our Welcome Back Barbecue and are currently available from the main office. Please note that the police department will not take cash and that families whose address is not ‘Toronto’ need to go to their local Police check facility to obtain their police record check. The process can take several weeks. Once you receive your ‘cleared’ form back, please bring a copy to the School Office.
