Dear JA Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back everyone! As stated in my email from last week, please welcome Mr. Parkinson and Mr. Negrii to JA. We are extremely lucky to have both of these experienced educators joining our teaching team. After recently talking to Ms. Brown, she wanted to assure parents that her decision to leave is in no way a reflection on the relationship she enjoyed with all of the students and she passes on her kindest regards.
With the cold weather upon us please ensure your child(ren) come to school with warm, labelled outdoor clothing including snow pants, a hat and mittens. Please consider placing an extra pair of socks and mittens in your child’s bag in case either ends up wet. A reminder that students will also be venturing outside for Outdoor Education class during the winter months. Just as we do on a daily basis for recess, we will monitor the temperature and wind chill values before sending the students outside for outdoor classes.
Skiing Program: 2018
A reminder that our first ski trip will occur this Friday, January 12th. If you haven’t already signed up for skiing but would like to, there are still a limited number of spots available. Please find the forms attached, which I would ask you to submit ASAP.
Students attending the trip need to be dropped off by 7:30 a.m. as the bus will depart by 7:45 a.m. The skiers will leave Heights of Horseshoe at approximately 2:30 pm. And are expected back at JA between 4:00 and 4:30, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The cafeteria will be open to the students and Heights has prepared a $6.00 lunch option for our school.
For those students remaining at school, it is still a standard school day, including full dress and hot lunch delivery by RFRK.
Grade 5-8 Pub Night: Save the Date!
Are you a parent of a grade 5-8 student? If so, please mark Thursday, January 25th, 2018 on your calendar. Tali Golombek has been organizing a Pub Night for grades 5-8 parents to get together. This event will occur at The Bier Markt at shops of Don Mills, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there.
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
The grade eight class has organized a Hot Chocolate Fundraiser on Thursday, January 11, 25 and February 1 and 8th. Hot chocolate will be sold in the atrium at first recess with proceeds going towards the grade eight graduation gift to the school. Hot chocolate will be sold for $2.00 per cup or $2.25 with marshmallows.
There is also still room in many of our after-school clubs and this is the final week to sign up on the attached club sheet.
Please note: Clubs that do not receive sufficient registration will not be able to run this term.
Christie Chapman, the yoga instructor has opened up spaces for students in grades 1 through 8 to participate in the yoga program this term.
All after-school clubs begin next week.
A reminder that our term two school clubs have begun. A chart is posted below for your convenience.

Would you like to receive 10% off next year’s tuition?
From now until June, 2018, we will offer 10% off your child’s tuition (one per family) when a new student enrolls at Junior Academy as a direct result of your personal referral. If you refer a second family who also enroll, an additional 5% will be deducted.
It is the time of year when we begin looking ahead to make plans for next year. In order to forecast our needs as accurately as possible, it is necessary to know how many students to plan for. With this in mind we are now preparing re-enrollment packages for distribution to current students, next week. I would ask that you return the signed forms no later than February 9th. If you would like to discussed programming option for next year, please contact me to set up a time for either a phone call or meeting.
