Dear JA Families,
Thank you to everyone who has already completed the short ‘Survey Monkey’. So far, about half our families have provided us with valuable insight, opinions and feedback. The survey is completely anonymous. It consists of 10 questions and should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes of your time. We would greatly appreciate your response prior to January 26th. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SBSFHH3
We are celebrating Chinese New Year at Junior Academy! The foyer has been decorated with traditional Chinese Décor and on Monday, January 30th, students will be treated to authentic Chinese Food. Thank you to parents Min Zhang, Robert Liu, Sandra Hao, Jack Chu, Bin Yang, Lily Zheng, Li Sha Graham and Rie Hisano for their assistance decorating and organizing for the celebration.
Packages were sent home yesterday. If you have not received yours, please check your child’s bag. In order to forecast our needs as accurately as possible, it is necessary to know how many students to plan for. As the school’s population has grown in the past year, please note that registration in our specialty programs will be limited and on a first come, first serve basis. Please do not delay and return the signed forms no later than February 10th. If there are any matters you would like to discuss regarding re-registration, please contact me.
Uniform Sale at InSchoolWear
Junior Academy’s uniform supplier is having a ‘Save the Tax” sale from February 4th to 18th for all items purchased in store or online. Please see the attached flyer for details.
Movie Night: Thursday, February 2; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet evening or a dinner out without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on February 2nd. After our first Movie Night was snowed out, we’re trying for round two! Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for The Secret Lives of Pets . A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. Please note, if you registered for Movie Night in December, you are registered for Movie Night on February 2nd. If you still wish to reserve a space, please contact Paul Bamberger (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Rose Reisman Lunch Program
Unfortunately, our lunch order numbers are such that our current hot lunch provider, ‘Rose Reisman’ will cease to deliver to our school after March Break. Over the next month, we will investigate other options. We will share more information once it is available.
Social Skills Weekly Lunch Time Program
The response to the Social Skills program offered by Kristine Locklin has been significant. Kristine will be in touch this week let you know if your child will be in session one (beginning next week) or two (beginning in March).
Usborne Book Fair
Back by popular demand, the Usborne Book Fair will be taking place in the library on February 13th, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and February 14th, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Once again, there will be a large selection of activity and informational books, as well as novels and storybooks. Parents are welcome to come and browse during those times. Teachers will have pre-selected some books for use in their classrooms. Please consider purchasing a book to donate to your child’s classroom. We look forward to seeing you there.
Bake Sale – February 14th
As is tradition at Junior Academy, there will be a Bake Sale on February 14th. We are still looking for a parent to co-ordinate this event as well as baked goods to sell. Each class also decorates a cake which is raffled off on the day of the bake sale. If you are able to coordinate this event with Julie Stewart, or if you can send in some baked goods, please email Julie to let her know. (email@example.com) Please note, we are also looking for a volunteer(s) to bake the cakes for each class to decorate for the raffle.
With the winter months often comes sneezes and sniffles. However, if your child experiences: diarrhea, vomiting or fever, Ministry of Health policy requires that they are immediately sent home from school. Children must be free of all symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.
Even though your child may seem better, returning to school too soon can cause them to relapse into sickness again, because of a weakened immune system. Returning too soon also may result in their sickness being passed onto other students and staff.
We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Every class will have an experiential learning day or field trip during the winter term. All field trips are tied in to curriculum that students are learning in class. Teachers will provide details about the trip in advance. Please note the following dates:
