Parent – Teacher Conferences, Survey, Clubs, Concert, Movie Night, Annual Fund

Wednesday November 22, 2017

Dear JA Families,

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers and all of the shoppers who helped make last week’s Scholastic Book Fair such a huge success. If you missed the book fair, you can order many of the items from the monthly Scholastic sales flyer. This will resume in the new year with a new digital platform where all payments and order forms will be online.

We are excited to introduce Ms. Stephanie Herdman, who has joined JA as our new Primary Support Teacher and Aftercare Coordinator. Ms. Herdman has a Bachelor of Social Work, a B.A. in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor of Education degree. She also has a wide array of additional training including ESL and Special Education. Ms. Herdman has held a variety of teaching positions since 2011, many of which have been in Northern and First Nations communities. I invite you to introduce yourself to Ms. Herdman as she gets to know the wonderful families in our community.

Survey Monkey Round Table Follow-Up

Tomorrow, we will be offering an evening meeting for parents who wish to attend, where I will share the results of the round table discussions held earlier this fall. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. Kristine Locklin will also be presenting on Public v.s. Private therapy sessions for Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. If you are planning to attend this session, I ask that you RSVP to Nick Johnson, njohnson@junioracademy.com in order to give us a better sense of attendance.

Last week, we circulated a brief Survey Monkey, and the results will be part of our presentation. The survey will close this evening. If you haven’t already, please take a few moments to complete this anonymous survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8XSRB62

Holiday Concert – Save the Date

If you don’t have this marked on your calendar already, our annual Holiday Concert will take place on December 14th, 2017.  The theme of this year’s concert will be ‘Snowtastic’! The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up by 8:00 p.m.  There will be a social for parents between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the library, and students will be supervised in their classroom at this time. Tickets will go on sale in December and they will be $10 each.

If your child will be staying at school until 6:00 and requires dinner, please fill out the pizza form which will accompany the form for ticket purchases.

Holiday Decorating Volunteers Needed

We will be looking for a number of volunteers a couple of events coming up in the next month.

Each year around this time Junior Academy is decorated for the holidays.  If you have a knack for tree trimming or can help with other interior decorations around the school please let Nick Johnson know by Friday, November 24th.  Once we know who is available, a convenient day will be selected.  We will need looking for volunteers to decorate:

-A tree in the Atrium

-The interior entranceways

-The library for our December 14th winter concert. (Afternoon of December 14)

-The stage for our December 14th winter concert. (Morning of December 14th)

Volunteers for Latke Day – December 18
Latke day at JA has become a tradition!  If you are able to assist either by donating Latka’s or helping for a couple of hours on the Monday of December 18th to reheat and distribute Latka’s to homerooms, please contact Jacqui Robbins (jrobbins@junioracademy.com) by Friday December 8th.   Usually about a dozen families donate a dozen latkes each (homemade or purchased), sour cream and/or apple sauce to the event.

Movie Night – Save the Date! Tuesday, December 19th, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

Would you like a quiet dinner out or perhaps the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without kids in tow?  JA has the answer!  Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on December 19th.  Stay tuned for more details!

Annual Fund

Contributions continue to come in but there’s still lots of room left in our annual fund campaign! We are hopeful that all families will be supporting this year’s campaign.

If you haven’t made your contribution yet, we would like to invite your family to make a contribution suitable to individual circumstance.

Thank you to our JA families for your generosity!
