Wednesday December 6, 2017
Dear JA Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Parent-Teacher conferences over the last two days. It was great to connect with so many of you.
Our school looks very festive! Thank you to parents Shan Shan Tang, Lili Wang, Rosa Regula, Rie Hisano, Debbie Bergson and Nouf Alfoozan for giving their time today to decorate the tree and begin decorating the school. Thank you also to Alison Reid for the winter themed planters as the front and back doors of the school.
It’s hard to believe that there are only a couple of full weeks of school left before our winter break! The next two weeks will be quite busy with many activities and events. Please see all of the exciting details below!
Our annual Holiday Concert will take place on December 14th, 2017. The theme of this year’s concert will be ‘Snowtastic’! The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up by 8:00 p.m. There will be a social for parents between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the library, and students will be supervised in their classroom at this time.
Tickets are on sale now and they are $10 each.
If your child will be staying at school until 6:00 and requires dinner, please fill out the pizza form which will accompany the form for ticket purchases.
Dress for this event is full uniform for all students. Adults generally come in business casual attire.
Please park on side streets around the school and be sure to obey no parking zones. Families who won ‘priority parking’ at the 2017 Fun Fair Silent Auction will have a space reserved.
I am very excited to share that we have almost reached our goal for the annual fund. With a flurry of new donations over the last week, we have exceeded $70,000 and are closing in on our goal. There are still two weeks left if you wish to donate and you help is greatly appreciated as your support is paramount to us developing and implementing innovative programming.
Gala Survey Reminder
A gentle reminder that a survey was distributed last week to gauge the interest of our families regarding a Spring Gala event. I ask that you complete the brief survey monkey to determine if there is sufficient interest to plan this event and to aid us in the preliminary details.
Skiing Program: 2018
This year, students in grades 2 to 8 are invited to participate in our winter ski program at Heights of Horseshoe. Heights of Horseshoe is a private club and I would like to thank Leah Carey for making this possible for us again this year! Given the capacity of the coach bus we are able to accommodate 52 students on each for the three ski dates. Ski trip forms were sent home last week. Registration is on a first come, first served basis and all registration forms and payment must be received by December 15th, at the latest! If your child requires additional support beyond the planned student to teacher ratio of 8:1 please let me know by December 15th so we may discuss whether this request is able to be accommodated.
Movie Night: Tuesday, December 19th; 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet dinner out or perhaps the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on December 19th. Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for Cars 3. A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. To reserve a space for your child(ren) for movie night please contact Nick Johnson (email@example.com).

Toy Drive 2017
Annually, Junior Academy participates in a Holiday Toy Drive. For the third year in a row, we have partnered with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive. Continuing until December 15th, students are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy. Donations should be shown to homeroom teachers (for house point tracking) and then placed under the Christmas tree in the foyer. The toys will be picked up from the school on December 15th, perhaps by the Toronto Firefighters themselves. If you have any questions about the Toy Drive please contact Mr. Sidler (firstname.lastname@example.org).
